This video is a break from the usual kiwi focus of this blog. I'm posting it because it reminds me of Sunday afternoons in north London.

It also reminds me of the horrors of cross country running but that's not such a happy memory!

This huge blue gantry was used to build the new Newmarket Viaduct - a road reconstruction project that - remarkably - opened early.

Here's the new extension to Mount Eden Prison, overshadowing Auckland Grammar School, the Spanish Mission-style building on the hill.

This is Britomart Station in downtown Auckland. The architecture - but not the service - reminds me of the Jubilee Line extension. Unfortunately the trains only go to a few corners of the city and not very frequently.


The new Auckland supercity will get its first supermayor in just a few weeks' time. Some of the more forward-thinking candidates have made public transport a key issue.

Shed 10 on Queen's Wharf in downtown Auckland is destined to become a cruise ship terminal in time for the RWC.
