Viaduct Harbour was built for the America's Cup when the race was hosted by Auckland in 2000. The Wynyard Quarter has been developed nearby to welcome Rugby World Cup visitors.

Pillbox



We found this World War II pillbox in a patch of native bush. When we peeked inside, there was quite a poignant scene - a chair and a candle - as if the home guard had been there just the night before. Although I doubt that purple chairs were popular in the 1940s.
